August Releases

Hey, everybody! As you know, every month I post about all the books that are coming out in the upcoming month that I’m excited about. Basically, I just go to Goodreads and look at the New Releases page and look for familiar authors or covers I recognize or sequels to tell you guys about. So let’s get into it.

That’s Not What Happened by Kody Keplinger

37825410Release Date: August 28 | Goodreads

Kody Keplinger wrote The DUFF which I actually enjoyed a lot. The cover of this one is different and I don’t know how much I like it but it also doesn’t give what seem any hint as to what the book might be about either. So let’s go read the synopsis. Okay, this one sounds really interesting! Kind of has that Little Monsters and One of Us Is Lying kind of vibe to it that’s been going around. Basically, three years ago there was a massacre at a high school and a student named Sarah died during it. Sarah is our main characters best friend. The story of how Sarah dies turns her into a martyr and her parents are writing a book about it except, it’s not the truth. Our main character knows the truth, our main character was in the bathroom with her when she died yet she never corrected anyone. Now is her last chance to set the truth straight before the whole world can read about lies. I’m actually really excited about this one because I love a Young Adult story with a mystery! Even though I haven’t read any of them yet…

The Girl I Used To Be by Mary Torjussen

35078786Release Date: August 9 | Goodreads

I read Gone Without a Trace by Mary last year and it was a pretty good mystery. I had no idea if I was going to like it and I actually did so I’m excited to see what else she produces. So the synopsis to this is pretty vague, which I enjoy but here’s what it tells us: Gemma is a mother who just wants a little vacation from her life. She finds this at an event in London where she meets a man and goes on an innocent dinner with him. The next day, somehow, secrets from her past and present turn her life into a nightmare that she has to confront. I can’t really judge this book from that… It doesn’t really give much idea as to whether the guy has something to do with these secrets coming out or how they come out. But that also adds to the mystery aspect and we all know I love going into books blind so I’ll probably still check this one out.

Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas

29749098Release Date: August 7 | Goodreads

This is another series that I haven’t started yet but am also super excited about. A bunch of well known YA authors teamed up to write about different DC superheroes. We already have Batman and Wonder Woman in this series and this is the third book. What I’m getting from the synopsis is that maybe this series is more connected than I thought. But Batman is off and although Batwing is trying his hardest to handle Gotham City, Catwoman, under a new alias, might try and take it right from him. That’s really all I got from the synopsis but I still want to read this series because I haven’t read something similar to it before. I love unique books that are out of my comfort zone because it gives me something else to try.

Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson

Dance of Thieves_FINAL 9.18Release Date: August 7 | Goodreads

This is the first book in Mary’s new series Dance of Thieves. I never got to finish The Kiss of Deception because I lost it in Texas but I enjoyed what I read! So hopefully I can restart and finish that series and then get into this one. This one is actually set in the Remnants Chronicle’s world so I’d probably have to read the Remnants Chronicle first anyway. But! the synopsis tells us that when an empire dies, the son, Jase, rises to power. A new era is on the horizon, though, with a new queen making her an enemy. The queen sends out a street thief who becomes entangled with Jase. They use false motives to play a secret game of their own. So what I’m seeing is that enemies turn lovers trope and I don’t hate it! I will definitely check this one out in due time and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

35403058Release Date: August 28 | Goodreads

I have not yet read a Victoria Schwab book! I am so disappointed in myself. This one is the first in a new series by her that I’m sure everyone is revving up for. Cassidy Blake’s parents are ghost hunters but Cassidy can actually see ghosts and even have a ghost best friend named Jacob. When the two best friends head to Scotland with Cass’s parents, they find another girl who can see the dead, Lara. She tells Cass they are In-betweens and are supposed to help send ghosts beyond the Veil. These powers lead her into an epic battle through multiple worlds to save her life. Okay… I love ghosts! Ghost hunting shows are so amazing and literally the most fun things ever. And yes, I believe in ghosts too! I don’t see how they can’t be real. So I feel like this new series is right up my alley.

That’s all for today, folks! Five books that are releasing in August that I’m pretty excited for. Are they any books that aren’t on here that you’re excited for? Tell me about them in the comments.
