Hey, everybody! Welcome back to another regular post on my blog: June Releases I’m most excited for. I just go through Goodreads, find books that are coming out this month that I’m really looking forward to, and put them here. Just as a warning now, I haven’t been in the bookish community that much recently so there may not be many books on this post but let’s see what I do find.
Smoke in the Sun (Flame in the Mist, #2) by Renée Ahdieh
Release Date: June 5th
“The only daughter of a prominent samurai, Mariko has always known she’d been raised for one purpose and one purpose only: to marry. Never mind her cunning, which rivals that of her twin brother, Kenshin, or her skills as an accomplished alchemist. Since Mariko was not born a boy, her fate was sealed the moment she drew her first breath.
So, at just seventeen years old, Mariko is sent to the imperial palace to meet her betrothed, a man she did not choose, for the very first time. But the journey is cut short when Mariko’s convoy is viciously attacked by the Black Clan, a dangerous group of bandits who’ve been hired to kill Mariko before she reaches the palace.
The lone survivor, Mariko narrowly escapes to the woods, where she plots her revenge. Dressed as a peasant boy, she sets out to infiltrate the Black Clan and hunt down those responsible for the target on her back. Once she’s within their ranks, though, Mariko finds for the first time she’s appreciated for her intellect and abilities. She even finds herself falling in love—a love that will force her to question everything she’s ever known about her family, her purpose, and her deepest desires.” – Goodreads
Now I haven’t read the first book, Flame in the Mist, which seems to be a recurring theme in these posts, but I’m still excited for this since I’ve been excited and looking forward to reading the first. I actually have no idea what this series is about except for the fact that I believe it is a Mulan retelling… Don’t quote me on that though. The synopsis is from the first book, the link is to this book.
Black Crown (Darkest Drae, #3) by Raye Wagner & Kelly St. Clare
Release Date: June 30
“Dark Fantasy. Dragons. Intrigue. Romance.
More than anything, I crave adventure. But in the disease ridden land of Verald, life is mapped out much like the well-established rings of our kingdom.
At the very heart reigns our vicious king and Lord Irrik, an invincible dragon shifter, at his side. Their power poisons the land and the people, leading to a steadily mounting number of enemies.
But change is coming.
When the rebellion surges, the king strikes back. Captured by Lord Irrik, I’m suddenly embroiled in a deadly game. One where I’m desperate to understand the rules.
Because I’m not only fighting for my life… but also a love that could be the very key to my freedom.” – Goodreads
Raye Wagner is actually a really beloved author of mine, she’s super sweet and I’ve loved her previous stories but the funny thing is… I didn’t know she had another series out! And this is the third book… I had no idea! I totally would’ve checked these out if I know but I guess I was just that much out of the loop, wow. I haven’t read anything of Kelly St. Clare but I’ve heard her name before, I just can’t think of what book of hers I know. The synopsis is for the first book, the link is to this book.
A Reaper at the Gates (Ember Quartet, #3) by Sabaa Tahir
Release Date: June 12
“Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free.
Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.
It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.
But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.
There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.” – Goodreads
Yet again, I haven’t read An Ember in the Ashes yet but since I want to read the first book, I obviously want to read this third book too! This is another book that I really don’t know much about except that the hype around it is ridiculous and I want to see what its all about and hopefully join yet another giant fandom. The synopsis is for the first book, the link is for this book.
My Plain Jane (The Lady Janies, #2) by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton
Release Date: June 26
“Edward (long live the king) is the King of England. He’s also dying, which is inconvenient, as he’s only sixteen and he’d much rather be planning for his first kiss than considering who will inherit his crown…
Jane (reads too many books) is Edward’s cousin, and far more interested in books than romance. Unfortunately for Jane, Edward has arranged to marry her off to secure the line of succession. And there’s something a little odd about her intended…
Gifford (call him G) is a horse. That is, he’s an Eðian (eth-y-un, for the uninitiated). Every day at dawn he becomes a noble chestnut steed—but then he wakes at dusk with a mouthful of hay. It’s all very undignified.
The plot thickens as Edward, Jane, and G are drawn into a dangerous conspiracy. With the fate of the kingdom at stake, our heroes will have to engage in some conspiring of their own. But can they pull off their plan before it’s off with their heads?” – Goodreads
Yep, haven’t read My Lady Jane either, you guys probably guessed that one. So this one really doesn’t have that much more of an explanation than the others, haha. I’m really excited to read this series because everyone says its really funny and I love funny books. The synopsis is for the first novel, the link is to this one.
The Emerald Sea (The Glittering Court, #3) by Richelle Mead
Release Date: June 26
“Big and sweeping, spanning from the refined palaces of Osfrid to the gold dust and untamed forests of Adoria, The Glittering Court tells the story of Adelaide, an Osfridian countess who poses as her servant to escape an arranged marriage and start a new life in Adoria, the New World. But to do that, she must join the Glittering Court.
Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies who appear destined for powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. Adelaide naturally excels in her training, and even makes a few friends: the fiery former laundress Tamsin and the beautiful Sirminican refugee Mira. She manages to keep her true identity hidden from all but one: the intriguing Cedric Thorn, son of the wealthy proprietor of the Glittering Court.
When Adelaide discovers that Cedric is hiding a dangerous secret of his own, together they hatch a scheme to make the best of Adelaide’s deception. Complications soon arise—first as they cross the treacherous seas from Osfrid to Adoria, and then when Adelaide catches the attention of a powerful governor.
But no complication will prove quite as daunting as the potent attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. An attraction that, if acted on, would scandalize the Glittering Court and make them both outcasts in wild, vastly uncharted lands…” – Goodreads
Yes, this one follows the trend of all the other ones. But with this one, I’m looking forward to this one because I was a little iffy about the first book. This author has a lot of mixed feelings towards her other novels so I wasn’t sure how it’d work out. So to see that this story is continuing on I’d like to check it out and form my own opinions. The synopsis is for the first book, the link is for this book.
Save the Date by Morgan Matson
Release Date: June 5
“Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait—for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend, before the house is sold and everything changes. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again. Making decisions about things like what college to attend and reuniting with longstanding crush Jesse Foster—all that can wait. She wants to focus on making the weekend perfect.
The only problem? The weekend is shaping up to be an absolute disaster.
There’s the unexpected dog with a penchant for howling, house alarm that won’t stop going off, and a papergirl with a grudge.
There are the relatives who aren’t speaking, the (awful) girl her favorite brother brought home unannounced, and a missing tuxedo.
Not to mention the neighbor who seems to be bent on sabotage and a storm that is bent on drenching everything. The justice of the peace is missing. The band will only play covers. The guests are all crazy. And the wedding planner’s nephew is unexpectedly, distractingly…cute.
Over the course of three ridiculously chaotic days, Charlie will learn more than she ever expected about the family she thought she knew by heart. And she’ll realize that sometimes, trying to keep everything like it was in the past means missing out on the future.” – Goodreads
Aha! So this one is finally different from the others because it doesn’t have a series. Although, I haven’t any other Morgan Matson books though so there’s that. But regardless, it’s a contemporary novel and everyone has loved all of her other works so I’m sure this one is no different. I’m a contemporary lover so I’m sure this one will fit with me just well.
Alright, that’s all I have for today folks! I hope you enjoyed this and found this informative (even though you all probably knew about this). Are you excited for any of these books too? Have you already picked any of these up? Tell me all about it tonight.
